A BIT OF HISTORY
Originally a farm, the property was acquired in 1824 – under Louis XVIII – by Simon Hème, an ancestor of the family. This vineyard and agricultural property used to live in complete autonomy. Soon after, Simon Hème decided to restore it to improve its comfort and aesthetics.
At the end of the 1860s, feeling a little cramped, his descendants launched the construction of the Chateau de Beaumont. Completed in 1870, its first inhabitants were the Prussians who invaded France up to the city of Tours. They stayed there for 2 months.
At the end of the nineteenth century, the phylloxera crisis forced the owners to pluck all the vines, thus triggering the end of the wine production, and the plantation of the wood adjoining the property.
In 1941, the domain was occupied again. The Kommandatura settled there but remained only shortly, judging its isolation dangerous for their security. Liberated from their German occupants and its owners having gone into exodus, the property was looted multiple times.
In 1958, an electrical accident set the Chateau de Beaumont on fire that led to the destruction of its original roof and an entire wing. The castle was never rebuilt to its original state, and it is only in 2015 that, through a large restoration, the building recovered its symmetry by the destruction of the second wing and the reconstruction of bespoke roofs.
The outbuildings were progressively modernized. The Ermitière, originally the stables of the property, was converted into a property holiday in 2001. The Lissière, then the property’s manager house, was converted into a property holiday in 2002.
